Entry #3 Slanted Reporting
Slanted Reporting has become very common in today's technological world. Especially with the help of AI-generated stories and videos, the reports of unofficial and official sources have become disoriented. The only way to distinguish between a lie and the truth is pure discernment. Viewing the world always wanting to get facts and that back up the truth. When it comes to slanted reporting, it's essential to identify the clear differences between the opposing sides. Then the research done on the part of the audience is essential and will help build enough information to trust the source. The key is not to lean when you begin to feel the slanting of the report, but stand firm on truth and knowledge. Take this video, for instance. Jordan Peterson vs. Cathy Newman - YouTube.
The interviewer is obviously slanted in her reports to try to pull a "gotcha" moment on Dr. Peterson. She continues to bring up snippets of comments Peterson made to stir up the emotions of not only the audience, but Peterson as well. This is more of an interesting report because it is an interviewer's report, then using it to question someone else with her own slanted reporting. I detected her slanted reporting when I discovered the additional videos of Peterson that she used to spin his words. Slanted reporting affects news broadcasting, interviews, and especially the media. The effects of slanted reporting influence many sources and platforms used by those willing to alter their reports for a certain cause or bias.
While reading the Bad News Bias article by the New York Times, The author brought up the great example of news bias and slanted reporting during covid-19. During Covid-19 much of the reporting was misconstrued and unfactual to promote hysteria. When hysteria collides with false information, people can become aggressive about what they believe and force their opinions on others. I believe this to be a subtle way of controlling others when their minds are in fear and out of control. Slanted reporting can be a serious way of impacting our society and how the truth can be lost if we don't correct this kind of reporting.
