Learning About Blogs
Blogs are an underrated source of information and entertainment for the younger generation. Looking at the example blogs, I have never taken the time to explore blogs for general information, whether it's for lifestyle, recipes, or just to keep up with the constant changes of culture. Since I noticed my own lack of interest for blogs, it led me to think about how it isn't really popular with others my age as well. So I went to research if this idea, was actually a fact. It turns out it is a fact, although reading blogs is done by 77% of internet users (How Many People Read Blogs? (2025 Readership Stats), almost 40% of those readers are between the ages of 41 and 60. When I went to search for how many of those readers were the 19-24 year old age range, the percentage came out to be a whopping 10%.
The blogging website led me to another interesting fact that stated, "Only 20% of readers will read past the headline." Now that I have deduced blogs aren't as popular with young adults as they are with older adults, here's why I believe blogs should be more popular among my generation. For one, they provide a wealth of easy-to-read and concise information, which is great for learning and entertainment. For example, the On Better Living blog, provides a good source for better living, a 7-second video on Instagram couldn't offer. It breaks down the cost, what it would be best to travel there for, and, overall a better idea on how to travel with great tips included. Also providing beautiful scenic pictures that draw one to travel to a place they are providing information on traveling to, like the Glasbern Inn in Philadelphia.(Glasbern Inn Review: A Historic Getaway in Lehigh Valley | Better Living). The format captures ones attention with beautiful pictures, then when clicked, offers a great source of information. This is a good example on why younger people should get into reading blogs more! A beneficial blog to my generation would also be other lifestyle blogs like Elizabeth Rider's blog. This blog provides healthier eating and living that has a better impact than a surface-level video online. The healthy recipes come with healthy living choices as well, our living choices factor into how we eat and a short video online can bring better habits and knowledge to an overall healthy life. (Elizabeth Rider - Modern Healthy Living).
I loved both of these blogs, so aesthetically pleasing, and I enjoyed the information I gained from reading over them. Both blogs are organized in a way that is modern and captivating for users who are used to scrolling through so much information every day. They organize their blogs with subheadings that bring up different links depending on what the reader would like to know more about. Although these blogs aren't set up in a way that is as easy as just clicking through a feed, they have a great way of learning while still getting the entertainment of a reel. The purpose of these kinds of lifestyle blogs is to influence readers by detailing what they have learned and encapsulating it into a blog that can help someone else do it too. They use insight into their experiences, one link could use facts, another is just wisdom from their life, and both are good for learning. They use professional photos to make it feel personal and bring understanding to their story. The pictures, as well as their opinions, also influence their purpose by giving the reader almost a birds eye view of their life or what they are explaining. All in all, blogs should be an incorporated way of learning for the younger generation.
